7th March 2015
In the words of Pope Francis, I invite you all, at this very moment, to a renewed personal encounter with Jesus Christ…
(The Joy of the Gospel 1:3)
In March, a number of John Henry Newman students and staff travelled down to Wembley Arena and took part in ‘Flame2’, the biggest national Catholic Youth event of 2015.
Picture the vibrant setting of an Arena filled with 10,000 young people from across the country, receiving faith-filled inspiration from world class speakers. Keynote speakers included Cardinal Luis Tagle from Manila, Philippines; Baroness Sheila Hollins; Fr Timothy Radcliffe OP; and David Wells. Music was led by internationally acclaimed musician Matt Redman and the day was linked together by professional presenters Alfie and Gilly.
Throughout the fast paced programme, interspersed with dance and music, there were bursts of input from the speakers creating an atmosphere filled with joy. The day ended with a time of Adoration led by Cardinal Vincent Nichols. The event succeed to ignite the flame of faith in young people. The whole day gave our students much to be inspired by and to reflect on and everyone was able to experience the joy of the Gospel and how united the young people are in their faith.
