Getting Started Evenings

Dear Students, Parents and Carers

As we start the new term there are always many questions about what to expect for the forthcoming academic year and how parents and carers can support their child in their studies. To help the year get off to an excellent start, you are warmly invited to attend one of our Getting Started evenings. The main focus for the College this year is to work even more closely with families and to help them to support their child’s learning. In light of the new GCSE examinations, it is evident that students with parental support make exceptional progress. During these meetings the College will share knowledge about learning and the schemes of work in place for students this year and there will be opportunities to ask questions and meet the Head of Year.

The College is very proud of our students’ behaviour and their attitude to learning. This year we have launched a new strategy to reward students for their excellent conduct. In the rare cases that students do not conform to our high expectations, the new system will enable the College to react more efficiently and prevent any disruption in lessons. Mr Matheson our Vice Principal will introduce parents to the new system during the ‘Getting Started’ evening.

After the presentation in the Theatre, parents will have the opportunity to log on to Google Classroom and try some of the learning techniques with their child. Mr Harvey will be available to answer any queries about Google Classroom and to illustrate what support is available to families who do not have internet access at home.

We fully understand that it may be difficult for families with two or more children in different year groups to attend both meetings. As there will be some overlap, I recommend that families attend the Getting Started evening related to their oldest child.
