This paper is testing their translation skill and vocabulary knowledge. To be successful on this paper, students will need to thoroughly revise the vocabulary in their knowledge organisers for module 1 and module 2.

2

Grammar- The present tense

30 minutes

In paper 2, students will be tested on their knowledge on the present tense. They will need to learn the regular present tense endings off by heart and be able to apply this knowledge to conjugate a variety of different verbs.

How should my child revise and prepare to be successful on these assessments?

Paper 1- Thoroughly revise vocabulary for module 1 and 2. Students can do this the same way they revise and prepare for their regular vocab tests by self-testing. This process involves the following steps:

  1. Write out the vocab (both English and Spanish)
  2. Test yourself from Spanish into English by writing out the Spanish and then completing the English meaning without looking at any resources. This should be repeated until they are all correct. Students can then use their knowledge organiser to self-mark.
  3. Test yourself from English into Spanish by writing out the English and then completing the Spanish translation without looking at any resources. This should be repeated until they are all correct. Students can then use their knowledge organiser to self-mark.

Alternatively, students may choose to create flashcards and ask family or friends to test them using flashcards, or even simply by handing their knowledge organiser to a family member or friend and asking to be tested.

Students may also choose to use our online resource www.pearsonactivelearn.com This website has vocab learning tasks as well as reading comprehension tasks. Students have their own logins to this website.

Paper 2- Students will need to thoroughly revise and learn the present tense verb endings for the three verb groups. They have this in their knowledge organiser and will also have resources from lessons in their exercise books. The best way to memorise these endings is through repetition and practice. Simply writing them out over and over again and chanting them out loud can aide memory of these verb endings. Students have been given some verb drill sheets to help them and these can also be found on google classroom.

3 Ways Parents Can Help

  1. Knowledge organisers: Encourage your child to use their knowledge organisers and the PLCs to organise their revision and complete self-testing of vocabulary and verb endings. Offer to quiz them on their vocab and verb endings by using the knowledge organiser to check their answers.
  2. Pearson Active Learn: Encourage your son/daughter to complete additional vocab and reading comprehension practice on www.pearsonactivelearn.com. Every student has an individual login.
  3. Support resources: Ensure your child is completing the verb drills given to them by their teacher and also available on Google Classroom
