Supporting Exam Preparation

Effective studying is essential to doing well in these exams. We’ve included some tips below for parents/carers:

  • Encourage your child to start studying now
  • Encourage your child to use the knowledge organisers and flash cards for the topics completed so far. These contain all the essential knowledge that they have studied in atomic structure and bonding, rates of reaction and fuels and Earth’s atmosphere. These can be found on Google classroom.
  • Ask your child if you can help them: chatting to them or asking them questions from the knowledge organisers. See if they can use this approach.
  • After they have done this, they can use the exam PLC personal learning checklist – to ensure they have learned all the specific knowledge needed for the exam. This contains video and web links to help your child.
  • There are also practice questions to be completed – these are similar to the ones on the exam and the answers are available so that your child and you can check their work.

AP2 - Exam Content

Exam content to be learned and studied

Year 8

Biology: Reproduction, Inheritance and Evolution, Diet and Digestion

Chemistry: Chemical Reactions, Reactivity and Displacement

Physics: Electricity and Magnetism, Energy Resources

Year 9

Chemistry: Atomic Structure and Bonding, Rates of Reactions, Fuels and Earth's Atmosphere

Physics: Uses of Waves, Radioactivity

Biology: Respiration, Photosynthesis, Food Chains

Spacing

From now until the exam, study in chunks and do not leave the preparation until the last minute

Use the materials to spread out your studying so everything is studied, more than twice and the practice questions are used. If you do this the actual exam in January will have no surprises.

Google Classroom

Your child’s science Google classroom has all the materials discussed above in an easy to access way. Your child has access to this – ask them to show you the knowledge organisers for the topics
