Reflection for Friday 20 March 2020

20th March 2020Mr B Clayton

As yesterday and in addition to the Daily Stop and Pray, a few thoughts and reflections for you, I hope, trust and pray it might be of help.

The following reading formed part of the Office of Morning Prayer from the Divine Office (the daily Prayer of the Church) from yesterday (Feast of St Joseph). I often feel the words as it were jump of the page, they did yesterday. The ‘house’ described in the reading could be your own home, the community of the college; but in Scripture it describes where God dwells, within our daily lives.

Second Book of Samuel 7:28-29

Lord, you are God indeed, your words are true, and you have made this fair promise to your servant. Be pleased, then, to bless the House of your servant, that it may continue for ever in your presence; for you, Lord, have spoken; and with your blessing the House of your servant will be for ever blessed.

Heart Speaks to Heart

I came across this prayer, I thought it might help!

‘The Weaver’

My life is but a weaving between my Lord and me, I cannot see the colours the Lord worketh steadily.

Oft times the Lord weaveth sorrow and I in foolish pride, forget he sees the upper and I the underside.

Not till the looms are silent and the shuttles cease to fly, shall God unroll the canvas and explain the reason why.

The dark threads are as needful in the weavers skilful hands as the threads of gold and silver in the pattern the Lord has planned.

Amen.

United in thought, reflection and prayer.

Blessings,

Andrew, SCJ

Reflection for Thursday 20 March 2020

19th March 2020Mr B Clayton

In addition to the Daily Stop and Pray, I share a few thoughts and reflections with you.

One of the readings for Mass (yesterday) really struck me this morning as I thought about the forthcoming day, how many situations would change, much of the unknown and so much unexpected; as I prepare this for you here in my office on Wednesday evening, so much has changed since this morning, both within the College, within your family lives, within the Community of the Church, the People of God.

Moses was preparing the People of Israel for a journey into a land both distant and far away, so much would be new, so much unknown; it struck me that feels pretty much like that for us. Moses promised the people the presence of God, then as now!

Moses said to the people:

‘Now, Israel, take notice of the laws and customs that I teach you today, and observe them, that you may have life and may enter and take possession of the land that the Lord the God of your fathers is giving you.

‘See, as the Lord my God has commanded me, I teach you the laws and customs that you are to observe in the land you are to enter and make your own. Keep them, observe them, and they will demonstrate to the peoples your wisdom and understanding. When they come to know of all these laws they will exclaim, “No other people is as wise and prudent as this great nation.” And indeed, what great nation is there that has its gods so near as the Lord our God is to us whenever we call to him? And what great nation is there that has laws and customs to match this whole Law that I put before you today?

‘But take care what you do and be on your guard. Do not forget the things your eyes have seen, nor let them slip from your heart all the days of your life; rather, tell them to your children and to your children’s children.’

Heart Speaks to Heart

I came across this prayer, I thought it might help!

‘I Wish’

When you’re lonely, I wish you love.

When you’re down I wish you joy.

When you’re troubled, I wish you peace.

When things are complicated, I wish you simple beauty.

When things are chaotic, I wish you inner silence.

When things are look empty, I wish you hope

And Finally:

United in thought, reflection and prayer.

Blessings,

Andrew, SCJ

Coronavirus (COVID-19): guidance

16th March 2020Mr B Clayton

Stay at home if you have coronavirus symptoms

Stay at home for 7 days if you have either:

  • a high temperature – you feel hot to touch on your chest or back
  • a new, continuous cough – this means you’ve started coughing repeatedly

Do not go to a GP surgery, pharmacy or hospital.

You do not need to contact 111 to tell them you’re staying at home.

Testing for coronavirus is not needed if you’re staying at home.

Read our advice about staying at home.

Urgent advice:Use the NHS 111 online coronavirus service if:

  • you feel you cannot cope with your symptoms at home
  • your condition gets worse
  • your symptoms do not get better after 7 days
Use the 111 coronavirus service

Only call 111 if you cannot get help online.

How coronavirus is spread

Because it’s a new illness, we do not know exactly how coronavirus spreads from person to person.

Similar viruses are spread in cough droplets.

It’s very unlikely it can be spread through things like packages or food.

How to avoid catching or spreading coronavirus

Do

  • wash your hands with soap and water often – do this for at least 20 seconds
  • always wash your hands when you get home or into work
  • use hand sanitiser gel if soap and water are not available
  • cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve (not your hands) when you cough or sneeze
  • put used tissues in the bin immediately and wash your hands afterwards
  • try to avoid close contact with people who are unwell

Don’t

  • do not touch your eyes, nose or mouth if your hands are not clean

Travel advice

There are some countries and areas where there’s a higher chance of coming into contact with someone with coronavirus.

If you’re planning to travel abroad and are concerned about coronavirus, see advice for travellers on GOV.UK.

Treatment for coronavirus

There is currently no specific treatment for coronavirus.

Antibiotics do not help, as they do not work against viruses.

Treatment aims to relieve the symptoms while your body fights the illness.

You’ll need to stay in isolation, away from other people, until you have recovered.
