What will I learn?

BTEC Health and Social Care provides a knowledge and understanding of the health care sector in a vocational context. On completion of the course you will be able to analyse and evaluate different perspectives of health, you will gain imperative skills needed to work in the health care sector such as effective communication skills, empathy, professionalism, critical thinking, problem solving, intrapersonal skills and many more.

You can pick health and social care in year 9 to start in year 10 and then in year 11 when you apply for 6th form.

In KS5 we offer the Level 3 Alternative Academic Qualification BTEC National in Health and Social Care (Extended Certificate)

There are 4 main units of work, 2 are internally assessed as coursework and 2 are externally assessed as exams. You will sit one internal assessment and one external assessment in each year. The units are as follows:

Entry requirements

Students will need to have a grade 4 or higher in English and grade 4s in GCSE Science(s). A wider interest in the health and social care industry, and a willingness to research and produce work independently would be a significant advantage.

Education progression opportunities

This course is a good starting point if you want to follow a career in Health and Social Care. This course can lead to employment, however; you would be expected to undertake further training or university for further study. This is an ideal course for those who wish to work in Health and Social Care environments or those who wish to move on to study in Higher Education in the area of Health and Social Care.This course is a full time course and can be studied over two years alongside other BTEC or A Levels which will support progression to higher education.
