Our OCR Sport Studies course is designed to give students a well-rounded understanding of both the practical and theoretical aspects of sport, helping them develop key skills such as leadership, teamwork, and communication, alongside a deeper understanding of tactics, rules, and performance.

Year 10
Students begin with R185 – Practical Performance & Leadership, where they focus on developing their practical sporting abilities and leadership skills through a range of activities and sports. From the end of May, students also start R187 – Outdoor Adventurous Activities (OAA), exploring outdoor challenges that build resilience, problem-solving, and team-working skills.

Year 11
Students continue with R187 – Outdoor Adventurous Activities until October half term, completing their practical portfolio. Following this, they begin R184 – Contemporary Issues in Sport, the exam-focused unit that covers key topics such as sports participation, the role of technology, ethical issues, and current trends in the sporting world.

Through this course, students not only enhance their practical abilities but also gain the knowledge and confidence to make informed decisions about sports participation, performance, and leadership—skills that support both their academic growth and lifelong engagement with physical activity.
