A Level and Level 3 Vocational Results Day

18th August 2022Mr B Clayton

A Level and Level 3 Vocational Results Day

Congratulations and well done  to Newman Sixth Year 13 students for making it through the past two years. These have been unprecedented times but today Year 13 students received their grades from this summer’s A Level exams  and Level 3 Vocational qualifications. These students were unable to sit GCSEs in 2020 and so these results  were the first external assessments that they have taken. These results are a tremendous achievement and we are so very proud of all of them.

Students achieved a 99% pass rate, with 48% of grades between A* to B and 84% between A* and C. Over the last five years, when exams have been sat, this is the highest pass rate achieved at Newman Sixth and reflects the investment the College has made in curriculum design and expert teaching.

The pastoral and UCAS support offered by Newman Sixth, which involves outside speakers, visits to careers shows, universities and employers, reflects the expertise of the Newman Sixth pastoral team. This has enabled  so many of this year’s Year 13 cohort to be able to accept their first choice offers.

Notable student success were achieved by;

  • Leah who achieved 2 A*s and an A and achieved a place to read law at the University of York
  • Rio who achieved A*, A and a B grade and achieved a place read to read politics and the University of Birmingham
  • Kian who achieved grades to get into Christchurch College, Oxford to read Art and Design
  • Aaliyah who achieved A*, A and a B  to gain a prestigious paralegal apprenticeship at a law firm
  • Kirsty who achieved A* in Product Design, A in Criminology and Distinction* in Applied Psychology
  • Josh who achieved grades A in Maths and B in Psychology at A Level and a Distinction* in Business to read Accounting and Finance at the University of Liverpool
  • Niamh who achieved 2 A grades and a Distinction* and is now looking to improve on her first choice offer
  • Keryn who achieved 2 A grades in Maths and Product Design and B in Geography and achieved a place to read Urban Planning and Design at University of College London
  • Ellie who achieved 2 A grades  and a Distinction* to read Geography at Bournemouth University
  • Ellie who achieved 2 B grades in Drama and Geography and 2C grades in English Literature and Philosophy and Ethics  and achieved a place at Royal Holloway University

We wish all of our students great success as they embark upon university courses, apprenticeships and employment and start the next chapter of their lives.

Hot Weather Update: Friday 15/07/22

15th July 2022Mr B Clayton

Hot Weather Update: Friday 15/07/22 @ 12:00

Dear Parents and Carers,

The College has looked at the hot weather forecast for Monday and Tuesday and will be taking the following steps:

On Monday and Tuesday, students in years 7, 8 9 and 10 can wear their JHNCC PE kit instead of their uniform. However, this must be the College PE and not their own sports kit.

If students do not have this kit then they must wear their usual school uniform. Students who wear uniform on Monday and Tuesday do not have to wear blazers and ties.

Y10 Geography students must wear their school uniform, minus their tie and blazer, on their field trip to Birmingham City Centre on Monday.

All students should bring plenty of water

The College will be monitoring the forecast and if the forecast changes and more changes need to be made for Monday and Tuesday, further text updates will be sent out over the weekend so please look for them.

A Message from Kate Clarke, Principal of JHNCC from September 1st

25th May 2022Mr B Clayton

I am delighted to have been given the great privilege to lead John Henry Newman Catholic College on the next exciting stage of its school improvement journey. Students, staff, parents and governors have already extended a warm welcome to me before I take up the post of Principal in September.
I look forward to getting to know this vibrant and talented community in the coming months. Supporting our young people to grow into exceptional young adults by giving them a broad and balanced curriculum with the HEART values at its core, is my firm purpose; I look forward to serving this special community so that all within it feel a sense of their identity as a child of God, created in His image, wonderfully made, dearly loved and precious in His sight.
